In the UK, radiologists have condemned the taxation of bras. They said it was discrimination against women.
According to radiologists, the bra is a valuable item and should not be taxed. The Telegraph reported it.
They say the tax has a disproportionate impact on women and could be considered discriminatory.
“The introduction of VAT on bras does not equally affect women. Taxing bras can be considered discriminatory under the Equality Act 2010. Although wearing a bra may not cause any problems health, there is a risk of some musculoskeletal problems, especially if you wear a larger cup size,” they said.
Doctors have noticed that women who wear bras with a D cup or above often experience back, shoulder and neck pain due to the large weight of their breasts.
At the same time, wearing a high-quality, well-fitting bra can alleviate some of these problems, as well as reduce the time a person spends in pain due to musculoskeletal problems.
In their statement, the radiologists equated bras with menstrual products. In January 2024, VAT was removed from pads, tampons and menstrual cups in the UK. This follows a two-year campaign from various brands, retailers and women’s organizations.
It was previously reported that rapper Drake posted a photo on his Instagram page where he showed off a collection of bras that fans threw at him during a concert.
