To protect Ukraine, Article 5 of the NATO Treaty is not necessary, but only the political will, the president said.
President Vladimir Zelensky held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Headquarters, where two main topics were discussed – the front and energy. He announced this on Telegram on Monday, April 15.
So, the head of state heard a report by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, on the situation in the main directions, defense needs and future actions of our troops. In turn, the heads of the intelligence services reported on the possible actions of the enemy, and the Minister of Defense reported on contracts for the supply of weapons, electronic warfare systems and drones.
The head of state also heard reports from representatives of the energy industry – the Ministry of Energy, Energoatom, Ukrenergo, Naftogaz – about the efforts they are making to protect systems, restore damaged generation, and re connect with consumers. There was also a report by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Kubrakov on the protection of critical infrastructure.
Zelensky said that physical protection cannot fully protect some objects from terrorist attacks. This can only be done by sufficiently effective air defense.
“We are grateful to the friends who understand this and quickly responded to our calls to support the Ukrainian air shield. But the intensity of the Russian attack requires more unity,” he said.
He recalled that the free world helped defend Israel and showed that “such unity is not only possible, but also one hundred percent effective.”
“The decisive actions of the allies prevented the success of terrorism and the loss of infrastructure and forced the aggressor to cool down. activation of Article 5 is not needed, just enough political will,” concluded the president.
Let’s recall that Israel’s permanent representative to the UN, Gilad Erdan, in an emergency meeting of the Security Council called on countries to listen to Vladimir Zelensky’s words about the threat of Iran and Russia’s actions in the world.
