Republicans promised swift aid to Israel

Perhaps we are talking about the same bill that provides aid to Ukraine, and has been stuck in the House of Representatives for months.

The US Congress will next week consider a bill to support Israel. This is probably the same bill that also provides $60 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Politico reported this on the evening of Sunday, April 14.

House Republican leadership announced Saturday that the House will vote on a pro-Israel bill next week. The publication notes that the Iranian attack has sparked new bipartisan calls for a foreign aid package.

“In light of Iran’s unjustified attacks on Israel, next week the House of Representatives will depart from its previously announced legislative schedule to consider legislation supporting our ally Israel and holding accountable the Iran and its terrorist proxies,” Majority Leader Steve Scalise said in a statement.

However, from the text of the announcement it is not clear which document the House of Representatives will vote on, if we are talking about the same package of aid to foreign allies, which combines funding for Israel with aid to Ukraine and Taiwan.

Scalise said “additional information…will be provided.”

The publication writes that Republican leaders are facing growing bipartisan pressure to pass an aid package after the Iran attack.

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell pressed the House to take up the Senate-passed foreign aid package, saying it would “provide critical resources” for Israel, “overdue death aid” for Ukraine and Taiwan.

Politico says it’s the latest example of the Republican leader trying to push his GOP colleagues across the Capitol to pass legislation they’ve previously opposed.

We remind you that on February 13, the US Senate supported a package that provides more than $60 billion for Ukraine – mainly for military aid. But the Senate’s decision is not enough to allocate money – the bill must pass the House of Representatives, which is in no hurry to consider it due to pressure from former President Donald Trump.

House Speaker Mike Johnson met with Trump on Friday. As a result of the meeting, Trump said that he had no objection to approving aid to Ukraine, but only in the form of a loan.
