Washington is now reviewing its military structure in the region against the background of the threat from Iran, and is also monitoring the development of the situation. American President Joe Biden is informed about the situation several times a day. This was stated by John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications of the US National Security Council, Sky News reports.
Biden has made it clear to the entire national security team that we will take seriously our defense obligations, Israel’s self-defense, he stressed.
In addition, the White House is awaiting a response from Hamas regarding the latest round of negotiations for the release of hostages.
Meanwhile, the American television channel CNN, citing an American official, reported that the Pentagon has begun to transfer additional resources to the Middle East region. It is noted that there are plans to strengthen the air defense of American bases in Iraq and Syria, which have already been attacked by Iran-backed militants more than 100 times from October to February.
Let us recall that on April 1, Israel launched a missile attack on Damascus in Syria, as a result of which the Iranian consulate building was destroyed. At least seven Iranians were killed then, including two generals.
After this, Iranian authorities blamed Israel for the attack and promised a “harsh” response. Tel Aviv warned Tehran of the consequences.
