For months, Mike Johnson has delayed providing aid that would have provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with much-needed ammunition and weapons.
US House Speaker Mike Johnson speaks at the White House as he prepares to vote on military aid for Ukraine and Israel. This was announced by the leader of the Republicans in the US House of Representatives, Steve Scalise, reports the Associated Press.
According to him, Johnson is in talks with White House officials on a package that would differ from the Senate’s $95 billion foreign security package and include some Republican demands.
It comes after Johnson spent months delaying aid that would have provided Ukraine with much-needed ammunition and weapons while trying to find the right time to push the package through.
“No agreement has been reached. Obviously, an agreement must be reached not only with the White House, but also with our own members,” Scalise said.
We remind you that on February 13, the US Senate supported a package that provides more than $60 billion for Ukraine – mainly for military aid. But the Senate’s decision to appropriate the money is not enough – the bill must be passed by the House of Representatives.
On February 27, President Joe Biden met with congressional leaders. Politicians discussed the issues of aid to Ukraine. The Speaker of the House of Representatives said he continues to consider resolving the issue of protecting the US border a priority.
