The Armenian authorities made the corresponding decision against the background of the country’s turn towards the European Union and the deterioration of relations with Russia.
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan will not attend the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This was reported by the Armenpress agency in connection with the press service of the Armenian department.
The corresponding decision was announced by the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Ani Badalyan. He did not explain the reasons for this decision.
This meeting is scheduled to take place in Minsk on April 12. The previous meeting of the heads of departments took place in February 2024. Then its participants summarized the results of cooperation in foreign policy in the context of the international positioning of CIS.
Let’s remember that in March, Ararat Mirzoyan said that the Armenian authorities are discussing the possibility of the country joining the European Union. According to him, it is important for Yerevan to expand the circle of partners and allies.
The European Parliament also adopted a resolution to consider changing relations with Armenia if it wants to obtain candidate status.
Previously, Armenia suspended its participation in the CSTO. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said his country can no longer rely on Russia as its main defense and military partner.
