According to RMF24, to win the election a candidate must receive at least 50% of the votes, even if he is the only one on the list. And so it happened, the current mayor of the city, Janusz Zemanek, after counting all the votes, received only 39.7%.
It turned out that the majority of local residents simply voted against Zemanek, so the new chairman will be chosen by secret ballot in the local government.
Wilkowice is a city in Poland, in the commune of Wilkowice, Bielsk County, Silesian Voivodeship. Population – 6 thousand 761.
On April 7, the first round of local elections took place in Poland. At the polling stations they voted for deputies in communes, counties, cities, voivodeship sejmiks, as well as community chairmen – voits, burgomasters (head of the county) and city mayors. The second round is scheduled for April 21.
As the Polish publication Politika wrote, only one candidate ran for office in 421 communes. Researchers on Polish local government warn it is a dire sign for Polish democracy.
In the previous local elections the situation was in 320 communes.
