Former US President Donald Trump has denied reports that he has plans to cede some Ukrainian regions to Russia to end the war.
Donald Trump’s victory in the US election and rise to power is feared in Europe and Ukraine. Trump has repeatedly said he can quickly end the Russian-Ukrainian war. According to him, he knows both Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, so he will be able to “solve this problem very quickly.” How?
Plan to surrender territories?
Trump may offer Ukraine to cede some territories in favor of the Russian Federation, The Washington Post reports, citing unnamed sources familiar with the plan.
According to interlocutors who talked about it with Trump, the 45th US president’s plan to end the war is to push Ukraine to transfer Crimea and Donbass to Russia, the publication wrote.
Trump has said he believes both “Russia and Ukraine want to save” and that people in some parts of Ukraine would agree to become part of Russia, a person familiar with the matter said.
The Washington Post wrote that the Trump campaign refused to directly answer questions about this plan.
“Any speculation about Trump’s plan comes from unnamed and unknown sources who have no idea what’s going on or what’s going to happen,” campaign spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said.
Fake again?
Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller called the Washington Post story “fake news.”
He also said that Trump will not accept a peace plan until he is in power and can properly “weigh all the options.”
“It’s all fake news from the Washington Post. They’re just making it up. Only President Trump is talking about stopping the killing. Joe Biden is talking about more killings,” the Trump adviser said.
Diplomat and director of the Center for Research on National Sustainability Oleg Belokolos believes that “one should not trust these so-called sources close to some circles close to Trump.”
At the same time, the diplomat recalls the events that occurred during Trump’s first term in office: “In the beginning, even many serious publications wrote that he would trade Syria for Crimea; and the Crimea seems to be ceded to Russia. Although during his administration the so-called Crimea declaration was adopted, which states that the United States does not recognize the annexation. And these, such declarations, are not easily dismissed. And even if you are the President of the United States.”
“First, they probably won’t be able to force us, but even to work in the internal kitchen and come out with such a decision as a proposal for negotiations… I have very serious doubts,” Belokolos added.
