After processing 100% of the ballots, he received 53.12% of the votes, while his opponent Ivan Korczok received 46.87%. DW reports this.
Korczok had already admitted defeat and congratulated the winner.
During the first round of the presidential election on March 23, none of the candidates was able to overcome the 50% threshold, but Korczak then received 42.51%, beating Pellegrini by five percentage points. In the second round of elections, voter turnout increased significantly, reaching 61%.
Pellegrini called for “caution” in the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine, while Korczok advocated strong military support for Kyiv.
The presidency in Slovakia is largely ceremonial, but it ratifies international treaties, appoints senior judges and is commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and can veto laws passed by parliament.
