The batch includes both 155-mm and 152-mm shells, but they need to be found between two and three billion euros.
Estonia finds another batch of ammunition for Ukraine. However, they need to raise up to three billion euros. This is what Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said, Forbes reports on Saturday, April 6.
According to him, Estonia has the opportunity to buy shells and missiles for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the amount of two to three billion euros. However, this will be possible if the allies provide funds.
Considering the cost of the shells, we can talk about a million Grad shells and missiles.
Pevkur noted that he had already mentioned this possibility at the Ramstein meeting, which took place on March 19. According to him, Estonia could get these ammunition mainly from non-European countries, however, he did not say if which countries
Unfortunately, I can’t explain. In many cases, the seller himself does not want this to be known. Since the orders include both 155mm and 152mm shells, Russia is also actively seeking suppliers around the world through Belarus. There is a certain race against time to see who can give them first,” he said.
“If we combine this million shells, the potential purchases of the Czech Republic, our purchasing capabilities, as well as the British, I dare say that it is possible to send 2-2.5 million shells to Ukraine this year if there is funding,” he said.
According to the Minister, this amount will make it possible to compare with the production of Russian ammunition.
Let’s remember that at the end of March Pevkur reported that there was still not enough money for the Czech initiative.
It was also reported that, as part of the Czech initiative, Ukraine will not receive 800 thousand bullets, as previously planned, but one million.
