The panel of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court announced his verdict in the so-called gas case. Onishchenko was accused of embezzling public funds worth about UAH 740 million during the production and sale of natural gas under joint activity agreements with the public joint-stock company Ukrgasvydobuvannya. The defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison and confiscation of property. The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported this on April 5.
The investigation established that Onishchenko is the founder and leader of an organization whose members, from January 2013 to June 2016, illegally seized about UAH 1.6 billion from the sale of natural gas. Because of this, Ukrgasvydobuvannya suffered losses of almost UAH 740 million.
In February 2019, the indictment against the ex-people’s deputy was sent to the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv. As part of the investigation, at the request of NABU, 1 million cubic meters was seized. m of gas, 6 million euros, office space, an airplane and other property.
