At the end of November 2023, following the results of the Ukraine-NATO Council, Kyiv received recommendations from the Alliance for joining the organization.
Ukraine has made progress in the areas of security and defense, as well as in the fight against corruption, indicating the implementation of allied recommendations to be closer to NATO standards. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced this on Thursday, April 4, in a briefing.
“Ukraine has made significant progress in recent months, pushing back the Russian fleet in the Black Sea, opening up ways to deliver grain around the world,” Blinken said.
He noted that Ukraine stands bravely on the battlefield, fights corruption, engages with economic investors and pursues a clear policy regarding military aid from its allies.
“I think this development shows that Ukraine is taking our advice, the advice of all allies, and is taking seriously the effort to meet NATO’s high standards,” Blinken said.
He also reiterated that Ukraine’s future lies in NATO.
“Our goal today is to create a bridge to full membership by offering additional support and better cooperation as Ukraine carries out the reforms necessary to join the Alliance,” added the US Secretary of State united states
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg proposed creating a five-year, $100 billion fund for Ukraine to encourage the Alliance to provide weapons to Kyiv.
NATO allies can give Ukraine more help for the de-occupation of the territories.
