The Patriarch called on Christians of the Eastern and Western rites to establish a common time frame for celebrating the holiday. Catholic Culture reports this.
He expressed hope that an agreement on a common date could be reached as early as next year.
In 2025, according to both calendars, Easter will fall on April 20.
We beg the Lord of Glory that the upcoming celebration of Easter next year will not be just a coincidence, but will become the beginning of a single date for its celebration for both Eastern and Western Christianity,” Bartholomew emphasized.
According to him, in 2025 the church will celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the convening of the First Ecumenical Synod in Nicaea – among the key discussions was the issue of establishing a joint time frame for the celebration of Easter.
We are optimistic because there is good will and desire on both sides. For it is truly scandalous to celebrate separately the unique event of the single Resurrection of the One Lord! – Bartholomew emphasized.
