The President informed Fumio Kishida about Ukraine’s need for non-lethal equipment: equipment for building fortifications, mine clearance and medical evacuation.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky spoke by phone with Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida. The Ukrainian leader announced this on Telegram on Wednesday, April 3.
“We discussed with the Prime Minister the state of preparation of a bilateral security agreement following three rounds of negotiations,” he wrote.
Zelensky recalled that “Japan has already provided Ukraine with financial support of more than $12 billion and announced additional assistance for the current year.”
“I am personally grateful to the Prime Minister for holding the Japanese-Ukrainian conference in Tokyo in February, where more than 50 bilateral agreements were signed. We agreed to facilitate their rapid implementation,” the president added.
Zelensky mentioned the increased pressure of sanctions on Russia and the creation of a mechanism for the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.
“In this context, Japan’s introduction of the 23rd package of sanctions against Russia for the war in Ukraine is a good example for other international partners,” he said.
The President also informed Kishida about Ukraine’s need for non-lethal equipment: special equipment for fortifications, mine clearance and medical evacuation.
Let’s remember that at the beginning of 2024, Japan became the largest financial donor to Ukraine. The funds were raised through five World Bank projects.
