It was also noted that due to the earthquake, the island’s authorities suspended train service, and service on one of the above-ground metro lines in Taipei was suspended due to damage.
The earthquake destroyed at least 26 buildings on the island. People in seven of these buildings were trapped, and more than 90 thousand households on the island were left without electricity.
The US Geological Survey estimated the earthquake’s magnitude at 7.4, making it the strongest earthquake to hit Taiwan in 25 years.
It was previously reported that four strong earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.5, 6.6, 6.3 and 6.5 occurred off the east coast of Taiwan on the morning of Wednesday, April 3.
