London has summoned Israel’s ambassador, and Washington is demanding a “wider investigation” and the publication of the findings.
London and Washington have expressed shock and outrage over the death of a World Central Kitchen humanitarian worker in the Gaza Strip as a result of a strike by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Thus, the British Foreign Office summoned the Israeli ambassador after an airstrike in the Gaza Strip killed seven workers of the World Central Kitchen organization, which provides food to victims of natural disasters, reports The Telegraph.
It noted that three of the seven humanitarian workers were British citizens.
In a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday night, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was shocked by the incident.
“We are asking Israel to immediately investigate what happened because there are clearly questions that need to be answered,” said the head of the British government.
Sunak stressed that too many aid workers and civilians have died in the Gaza Strip and the situation is increasingly unbearable.
In this regard, in the United States, White House adviser John Kirby expressed anger at the tragedy in a briefing.
He noted that Washington had seen comments from Prime Minister Netanyahu and the leadership of the IDF, which promised to conduct an investigation. Kirby added that the Israeli side had presented the results of the preliminary investigation on Tuesday. However, he said the United States expects to “conduct a more extensive investigation” quickly.
“We hope that these findings will be made public and that accountability will be ensured,” Kirby said.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the IDF was involved in the World Central Kitchen strike. He called the strike “accidental” and described it as a tragic event that “happens” during wartime.
It was earlier reported that the humanitarian mission workers were killed as a result of an Israeli air strike on their vehicle.
