The construction of the first underground school was completed in Kharkov; it will accept students until the end of the current academic year. This was reported by the press service of the Kharkov City Council on April 2.
According to the mayor of the city Igor Terekhov, the school premises are built to the highest safety standards, have 20 classrooms and are designed to accommodate 900 students in two shifts. Enrollment for the next academic year is almost complete. This year, 600 children will sit at their desks.
Terekhov added that similar schools are planned to be built in different areas of the city.
“We plan to continue building such schools in other areas of the city to provide all our children with equal access to quality and, above all, safe education,” said the mayor of Kharkov.
Earlier it was reported that the authorities of the Zaporozhye region are planning to open underground schools.
