Analysts have drawn attention to the new agreement between the United States and Turkey, which is still being negotiated. In particular, this involved the purchase of Turkish explosives to increase the production of American artillery shells.
The Pentagon has awarded a contract to US defense company General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems to build three production lines for metal parts for 155mm artillery shells in Texas with Turkish subcontractors. However, a plant in Texas should begin production in June 2024, ISW said.
Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Doug Bush said that the US Army aims to double the monthly production of 155-mm projectiles from 28 thousand projectiles per month in October 2023 to approximately 60 thousand projectiles per month. in October 2024.
According to him, this is possible with the additional appropriations proposed by Congress. The import of Turkish explosives will help increase the production of shells, ISW analysts added.
