The White House is urging Johnson to advance the Senate-approved Ukrainian aid project instead of building a new one.
US President Joe Biden’s administration has called on House Speaker Mike Johnson to vote on the Senate-approved Ukraine aid bill instead of writing a new one. About this on briefing on Monday, April 1, said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
“We are very clear. We believe the speaker should introduce a bill with additional funding for national security needs, which clearly includes support for Ukraine, humanitarian aid, support for Israel and the Indo-Pacific region. -Pacific,” said Jean-Pierre.
He clarified what is meant by the document, which was supported by 70 senators in February, which provides more than $60 billion for Ukraine.
The spokesman of the White House once again expressed confidence that if this bill is brought to a vote, a majority of representatives of both parties will support it.
Asked to comment on whether the US President would be willing to sign – if passed by both houses of Congress – the Republican option mentioned by Speaker Johnson, Jean-Pierre said he would not make hypothetical assessments.
As reported, a day before Johnson confirmed that after the Easter holidays he plans to introduce a bill on additional aid to Ukraine, which will include “some important changes.” Johnson cited the example of the possibility of granting a loan to Ukraine, which would reassure many Republicans, and also mentioned the REPO law (law on confiscation of frozen assets of the Russian Federation – ed.).
Let’s recall that on February 13, the US Senate supported a package that provides more than $60 billion for Ukraine, mainly for military aid. But the bill was never considered in the House of Representatives because of Speaker Johnson’s refusal to bring it to a vote.
