According to The Times of Israel, thousands of protesters gathered near the Knesset (parliament – Rakurs) in Jerusalem. The organizers said that more than 100 thousand people took part in the action.
Protesters expressed disbelief that Netanyahu is still in power and that the country has not yet held elections. They also demand agreement on the release of 130 hostages held in Gaza.
Jews and Arabs light fires and resist the police.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid addressed the protesters and said that the current prime minister is focused only on remaining in office than on helping citizens affected by the war.
This week the Knesset goes on recess in the middle of the war. The reservists will not get a break. The hostages have not been released. This doesn’t interest them. Everyone who sits in this government today bears responsibility. Every minister who does not resign, every member of the Knesset who does not vote against the government, this stain will remain on them for the rest of their lives,” Lapid said.
Netanyahu himself rejected the prospect of holding elections and said that a military operation in the city of Rafah had already been agreed upon, which should deal a final blow to Hamas.
Holding elections would paralyze negotiations for the release of our hostages and lead to an end to the war before the goals were fully achieved. And the first one to congratulate this is Hamas, and that tells you everything,” he said.
