US Speaker Johnson will bring up this issue for consideration on April 9, said Mike Turner, head of the House Intelligence Committee.
The Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson has promised to raise the issue of funding assistance to Ukraine. This will happen when Congress returns after the Easter break. Mike Turner, head of the House Intelligence Committee, told ABC News.
“The Speaker has made very clear statements that when we come back, this will be the next top item on the agenda. After we pass all the federally funded bills, I believe it will have tremendous support. in Congress, and we will put the bill on the president’s desk,” Turner told Face the Nation.
The congressman noted that Speaker Johnson has made it clear that he supports Ukraine, both directly to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and to the public.
“He made these statements publicly, as well as to the Secretary General of NATO,” added the head of the intelligence committee.
The US House of Representatives is scheduled to return from Easter recess on April 9. Turner expressed hope that the US Congress will approve aid to Ukraine before the House of Representatives recesses again on April 22.
“Of course, that is my hope. President Zelensky made it clear to Speaker Johnson that we are at a critical point. beginning to affect not only the morale of the fighting Ukrainians, but also their ability to fight. This is known to Putin. Obviously, we cannot allow Putin to win,” he emphasized.
Let’s recall that on February 13, the US Senate supported a package that provides more than $60 billion for Ukraine, mainly for military aid. But the bill was never considered in the House of Representatives because of Speaker Johnson’s refusal to bring it to a vote.
