In Turkey, in the village of Diyarbakir in the district of Agaclidere, disputes between those who gathered at a polling station developed into violent shooting clashes, as a result of which one person died and more than 10 the injured. This was reported by Hurriyet.
The conflict that arose during voting in local elections escalated into fights with stones and sticks, as well as pistols. A 44-year-old man died from gunshot wounds and died at the hospital. According to the latest data, 12 people are also known to have been injured, two of them in serious condition.
“While medical teams could not go to the scene due to the chaos, gendarmerie reinforcement teams were sent to the scene,” the publication wrote.
Later, the deceased was an official representative in the elections from the DEM party. The locality where the tragedy occurred was closed to the entry and exit of law enforcement officers.
DHA journalists Burak Emek and Giyasettin Tetik were also targeted. They tried to protect themselves by entering the ambulance. However, the bullet hit the tire of the car in which the media representatives were traveling. Two other ambulances were damaged.
The local governor’s Office said more than a hundred gendarmerie officers were working at the scene of the incident, and a helicopter was also deployed.
We remind you that the presidential election in Turkey was held in May 2023. Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the second round with a score of 52.18%. The next presidential election is scheduled for 2028. At the same time, Erdogan said that the current local elections on March 31 will be the last of his political career.
