This was reported by the Interfax-Ukraine agency with reference to the conclusions of the expert commission.
Located in Khreshchaty Park in Kiev, the Arch of Peoples’ Friendship, dedicated to events related to the implementation of Russian imperial policy and its glorification (installed in 1982 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the formation of the USSR and the 65th anniversary of the October Revolution of 1917), refers to symbolism Russian imperial policy and must be completely dismantled, the commission’s conclusions said.
It is noted that, despite the renaming of the object as the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People, the monument represents Soviet ideologies and connotations, and therefore poses a threat to the national security of Ukraine.
On May 16, 2022, the Kiev City Council decided to decommunize the Arch of Friendship of Peoples and renamed it the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People.
