Since the beginning of the work of the Unified Register of Weapons, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has received 307 thousand applications from citizens of Ukraine to obtain various types of weapons permits. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Leonid Timchenko said this in an interview with the publication Ukrainian news.
Timchenko added that the sale of each weapon in stores is recorded in the register.
“Now you can go to any store that sells weapons, and after buying a weapon directly in the store using the registry, you can submit your application to the police to register the purchased weapon. On the spot. The stores are have such access,” said the deputy minister.
It was noted that 371 thousand weapons are included in the register, which belong to 256 thousand individuals.
“However, the number of weapons registered with the National Police exceeds 1 million. All these weapons are not yet visible in the Unified Register, because the information about them needs to be updated,” explained the official
Timchenko added that the weapons registry will be 100% complete when every citizen registers or restores the right to use weapons.
According to the official, the register will be fully operational when it becomes three years from its introduction – in June 2026.
