For the past week, Agency experts have heard explosions every day at various distances from the station. Sounds were heard several times from nearby, probably from artillery fire leaving the station area.

Representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recorded the sounds of artillery shots from the territory of the occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. This was stated in a statement by Director General Mariano Grossi, published on the IAEA website on Thursday, March 28.

At the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, IAEA experts on site have continued to hear explosions every day for the past week at varying distances from the plant. In some cases, experts said, sounds were heard nearby, probably from artillery shots from the territory of the station,” the statement said.

Small arms fire was also reportedly heard, particularly on the night of March 22.

“In addition, yesterday (March 27 – ed.) an air raid alarm sounded at the site, postponing the planned visit of the IAEA team to the Zaporizhia NPP dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility to a later time,” the agency reported. .

They also noted that the repair of parts of the safety system of power unit No. 1 have not been resumed after Zaporizhia NPP decided to reschedule them last week. However, other scheduled maintenance work is being carried out at other locations within the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

In the past, the IAEA expressed concern that the Zaporizhia NPP work administration has twice postponed scheduled maintenance.

We remind you that on the morning of Friday, March 22, Energoatom reported that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is on the verge of another blackout due to a massive missile attack from the Russian Federation.
