After the Russian missile attack, the Ukrainian energy system lost 1 thousand MW of maneuverable capacity.

The extent of the damage to the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Station (DneproGES) still requires a thorough analysis, but it is known that it will take years to restore it. The General Director of Ukrhydroenergo Igor Sirota said this on the Public TV channel on Monday, March 25.

“We already understand that DneproGES has been out of commission for a long time. We still cannot say in detail and understand what and how much, but we already understand that to restore the station to the state it was before the missile attack. , it will take years”, he said.

Sirota said it is not yet possible to dismantle all the rubble at the station, as both the ceilings and walls are leaning against the turbine room with crane beams. It is necessary to dismantle the upper part of the turbine hall to get to the lower part.

“We held a meeting with the head of the Zaporozhye Regional Administration so that specialists of the State Emergency Service in the procedure of dismantling the floors could participate in the elimination of the consequences,” he said.

The General Director confirmed that the situation at the DneproGES dam is under control and there is no threat of a breakthrough.

“The dam itself is not damaged today. Only the crane beams located on the dam and the bridge crossing were damaged,” Sirota clarified and added that Ukrhydroenergo, together with related services, will try to restore the bridge crossing as soon as possible.

He recalled that DneproGES is the largest station of the Dnieper cascade and after the missile attack, the Ukrainian energy system lost 1 thousand MW of maneuverable power.

We remind you that on March 22, the Russians attacked DneproGES in Zaporozhye with missiles. Ukrhydroenergo reported direct hits on HPP-1 and HPP-2.

Later it became known that eight Russian missiles had hit the Dnieper hydroelectric station. The station is in critical condition.
