The Polish military decided not to prevent the Russians from attacking Ukraine from Polish territory, otherwise it would pose a danger for the Poles.
The Polish military did not shoot down the Russian missile, realizing that it would leave Polish airspace, and that an attempt to shoot it down would endanger the local population. This was stated by the spokesman of the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryszewski, RMF FM reports.
He explained that the decision not to launch the missile was made by the commander of the operational command of the Armed Forces.
“The decision was based on information from our radar systems. An analysis of the missile’s trajectory, speed and altitude indicated that it would leave our airspace,” Goryshevsky said.
According to him, an attempt to shoot down the missile would bring greater danger to local residents.
“The missile weighs more than two tons, of which the combat load is 400 kilograms. After the missile is shot down, its fragments will fall on our territory. The remnants of the effector used to shoot the missile itself will also fall . here,” he said.
According to him, the Russians chose a trajectory through Polish airspace to surprise the Ukrainian air defense.
“The Ukrainian air defense knows that most of the Russian missiles come from the east or north; the defenders are more likely to expect an attack from the west. Therefore, the Russian Federation deliberately maneuvers its missiles so that they can turn around and hit targets in Ukraine from the west,” said Goryshevsky. explains Poland’s decision not to stop the Russians from attacking Ukraine.
We remind you that this morning a Russian missile violated Polish airspace in the area of the village of Ocerdow, Lublin Voivodeship, and stayed there for 39 seconds. Polish Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamisz later said the Polish military would have shot down the Russian missile if they were confident it was heading for a target in Poland.
