The authorities began to supply electricity to certain areas of the regional center. About 35% of houses already have electricity. Another 50% was turned off before heating. Street lighting remains turned off and electric transport does not operate. There is simply not enough power for this. The mayor of Kharkov, Igor Terekhov, announced this on March 23 during a telethon.
The official did not give an exact time frame for connecting the electricity, because the damage was very serious – the transformer substation and lines were broken. If necessary, shutdown schedules will be introduced to ensure that all citizens have electricity.
Now it’s difficult to talk about restoring, restoring these transformer stations, and therefore connecting the city,” Terekhov said.
Let us remind you that on March 22, the Russian occupiers launched a massive air strike on Ukraine. Ukrenergo announced the defeat of dozens of main network facilities. Therefore, emergency shutdowns were introduced in seven regions. The most difficult situation was in Kharkov, because the occupiers literally tried to destroy all the main energy facilities that power the city.
Energy Minister of Ukraine German Galushchenko stated that teams of power engineers from other regions were sent to the Kharkov region, and the authorities mobilized all resources for the fastest possible restoration.
