A rare copy of the first edition of Brothers Grimm’s Children’s and Family Fairy Tales was sold for 215 thousand euros.
In Cologne, at the Venator & Hanstein auction, a rare copy of the first edition of the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales went under the hammer for 215 thousand euros. Barnebys reports.
The first volume was published in 1812 Brothers Grimm’s Fairy Tales (first known as Children’s and everyday stories) with 86 stories, of which – Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel And Snow White. The second volume was published in 1815 and contained another 70 stories, including Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Wise Tailor And Star money.
According to the auction house, the first edition was published in a circulation of 700 copies, of which only a few have survived to this day.
This is not the first time that Grimm’s fairy tales have been sold at auction, but the publication received the highest price to date.
The estimated price of the two volumes, 1812 and 1815, is 120,000 euros. In the end, the auction house Venator & Hanstein sold a rare copy of the first edition Fairy tales for children and families Brothers Grimm for 215 thousand euros.
According to the lot description, the edges and corners of the sold copy are slightly worn. There are also small tears on five pages and missing detail in the bottom white margin.
It was previously reported that a place in the mausoleum next to actress Marilyn Monroe and Playboy magazine founder Hugh Geffner was put up for auction.
