China is expanding its military and nuclear arsenal on a scale not seen since World War II.
China is developing its military capabilities and will be ready to attack Taiwan in 2027. This was said on Wednesday, March 20, by the head of the US Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral John Aquilino, as quoted by Bloomberg.
According to the publication, despite Beijing’s economic problems, its official defense budget has increased by 16% in recent years and exceeded $223 billion.
In this regard, Aquilino pointed out that in the three years that he headed the command, the Chinese army (PLA) received more than 400 fighters, two dozen large warships, and also updated its stock of ballistic and cruise missiles.
“All indications are that the military is following President Xi Jinping’s directive to be ready to attack Taiwan in 2027 if ordered to do so,” Aquilino said.
He added that the Chinese military is practicing naval and air blockade on the island during the exercise.
At the same time, as the publication points out, according to American intelligence estimates, China does not want a military conflict around Taiwan.
It was previously reported that Taiwan discovered five balloons from China in the sky.
