This was reported by Info Defensa with reference to the published list of the Spanish Secretary of State.
The Leopard 2 is classified as a non-combat vehicle by the Spanish Ministry of Defense and is stationed at the Casetas storage base. Before being sent to Ukraine, the tanks will undergo repairs at the Santa Bárbara Sistemas facility.
Spain began receiving leased Leopard 2 tanks in 1995 under a leasing contract for training. In total, the country leased 108 Leopard 2 tanks in the A4 variant. However, in 1998, Spain agreed to purchase a leased number of tanks and in parallel reduce the number of new Leopard 2E (A6) tanks.
Today, about 60 tanks remain at the storage base in Zaragoza, of which 10 have already been transferred to Ukraine and another 20 are awaiting transfer.
It should be noted that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Spain has been actively supporting Ukraine with weapons and financial packages for the purchase of weapons.
Spain is preparing to transfer a new batch of M113 armored personnel carriers for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is reported that two armored vehicles have been converted into ambulances, and the rest will be used for their intended purpose.
In addition, the Spanish Ministry of Defense informs that air defense systems and equipment for naval operations have already been sent to Ukraine.
