The war is always a defeat, because in this state it is impossible to advance, the pontiff emphasized.
Pope Francis reiterated his call for negotiations to end the war in Ukraine and the Middle East. Vatican News reported this on Wednesday, March 20.
In his weekly audience at the Vatican, the pope remembered the inhabitants of “martyred Ukraine and the Holy Land, Palestine, Israel, who suffer so much in the terrible wars.”
“And we must not forget that war is always a defeat. In a state of war, it is impossible to advance. Every effort must be made to conduct negotiations, whose goal is to end the war. Let us pray to the Lord for let it happen,” said the Pope.
Let’s remember that in a recent interview, Pope Francis said that Ukraine “must dare to raise the white flag.” His words caused a great resonance both in Ukraine and around the world.
Later, the press service of the Holy See explained that the Pope did not mean surrender, but a return to negotiations.
And the Kremlin said it was “sympathetic” to Francis’ remarks.
