The perpetrators face up to ten years in prison. The press service of the National Police reported this today, March 20.
Such a service could be ordered through a telegram channel; it cost from $500 to $3,000, police say. — The Palii developed a plan to commit a crime: they carried out reconnaissance of the area, purchased fuel and lubricants and made Molotov cocktails from them.
According to the investigation, the organizers of the criminal group were 20-year-old and 26-year-old residents of the Kiev and Chernigov regions, who recruited nine residents of the Kiev and Zhytomyr regions from 17 to 34 years old to do the “dirty” work.
The organizers themselves accepted orders for arson and distributed money received for committing crimes among group members.
The defendants organized a visit to the scene of the incident anywhere in the country and threw Molotov cocktails at houses and apartments, filming the arson of other people’s property on camera. The video was sent to customers as confirmation of execution, the police note.
In total, the attackers managed to damage four apartments and five houses in the Chernigov, Poltava, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Vinnitsa and Kyiv regions.
It is noted that investigators conducted 24 searches at the places of residence of group members and collected unconditional evidence of involvement of all 11 attackers in serial arson. In particular, the following was seized:
- ammunition;
- over 10 thousand dollars in different currencies;
- mobile phones used to take orders and film crimes;
- bank cards to which funds were transferred for the crime.
All members of the criminal group, including the organizers, have been notified of suspicion for the intentional destruction or damage of someone else’s property, committed by arson by an organized group (Part 3 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code).
The suspects were presented with a petition for measures in the form of round-the-clock house arrests.
