According to Naryshkin, the Russian special service received information that “a contingent is already being prepared to be sent to Ukraine” and “at the initial stage it will amount to about two thousand people.”
The French military fears that such a significant military unit will not be able to be overthrown and stationed in Ukraine unnoticed. Thus, he will become a priority legitimate target for attacks by the Russian armed forces,” the SVR press bureau quotes Naryshkin.
Shortly afterwards, the French Ministry of Defense issued its own statement, saying:
The technique used by the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service again shows how Russia systematically uses disinformation. We consider such provocations irresponsible.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out that troops from Western countries could be sent in the future to protect Ukraine from Russian aggression.
The main NATO countries, including Germany and the United States, as well as the leadership of the bloc itself, said that there are no such plans now.
