5 differences between the animation and the original tale

Check out some of the main differences in ‘Cinderella’ between the animation released by Disney in 1950 and the original tale

Considered the favorite princess of Walt Disneythe story of Cinderella was presented to the animation public in 1950, with the film that bears the same name as the protagonist, and follows the story of a girl who, after the death of her father, started to live with her evil stepmother and her two jealous daughters, being forced to carry out all the household chores alone while listening to ridicule.

The plot, in fact, was inspired by a short story published in 1697 by the author Charles Perrault, through the book “Tales of Mamãe Gansa”. Although both works present the same story, it is possible to notice that certain scenes are described in different ways on the pages and in the film adaptation.

With this in mind, RECREIO brought a list of five differences between the animation and the original “Cinderella” tale. Look!

In the 1950 version, Prince Charming’s father is described as an explosive man, but very funny and with a huge heart. The character, however, does not have the same prominence in the original story — quite the contrary, the man barely appears.

2. More than one dance

While in the Disney animation the prince and Cinderella meet and fall in love in just one night during the ball, the fact is presented in a slightly different way in the original version.

In the tale of Charles Perrault, two dances take place. On the first night, they dance together, and Cinderella spends the rest of the night talking to her stepsisters, who had not recognized her. On the second day, the couple spends the entire time together, causing the girl to lose track of time and need to run away, leaving her famous glass slipper behind.

3. Cinderella’s father

Right at the beginning of the film, we discover that Cinderella’s father has passed away and, therefore, she lives only with her stepmother and her stepsisters — very different from the original version, since, in the work of Perraultthe girl’s father is alive.

However, despite not having died, his presence does not make much difference in the story. The story explains that Cinderella was very afraid to tell her father about her stepmother’s mistreatment since the woman used to control her husband and, therefore, he has no knowledge of what happened to his daughter while he was not around.

4. Without the mice

The mice Jaq and Tata, Cinderella’s friends and helpers, are one of the animation characters most loved by the public due to their funny characteristics — but they didn’t exist in the original version. In fact, the tale of Perrault does not have any animal that acts as the protagonist’s helper.

5. The sisters’ ending

After carrying out a series of cruelties on Cinderella, the 1950 film makes it unclear what happened to Anastasia and Drizella, the protagonist’s half-sisters. In the original version, at the end of the story, it is explained that, despite both having carried out terrible acts, the princess forgives them and offers them housing in the palace, in addition to helping them get married.
