Germany will also support Ukraine in the short term with subsequent supplies of ammunition.
Ukraine will receive a military aid package worth 500 million euros from Germany. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said this at a press conference as part of the Ramstein meeting, Tagesschau reports on Tuesday, March 19.
Pistorius emphasized that we are specifically talking about the “German package”.
“In addition, in the short term, with subsequent supplies of ammunition, Germany will support Ukraine in its defense from the attack of the Russian aggressor. 10 thousand artillery shells are planned from the warehouses of the Bundeswehr, ” wrote the publication.
Also, the new aid package will include 100 units of armored vehicles for the infantry and 100 units of transport equipment. It is not specified what equipment will be transferred.
In comments to Radio Soboda, the minister emphasized the importance of achieving strong support for Ukraine, which is a “daily task.” According to Pistorius, Berlin plans to expand cooperation with Poland, especially in the production of ammunition, and also to make Ukraine understand that it can continue to count on support.
“There is progress in ammunition. On the one hand, thanks to the Czech initiative, but we will also be able to announce another package – here, now. Things are moving forward, sometimes in small and sometimes big steps. However , the main thing is that the supply of ammunition does not stop,” – he stated.
At the same time, when asked if Ukraine could count on the news about the Taurus cruise missiles, Pistorius replied: “No, there is no news about that.”
Earlier, Boris Pistorius called the debate about the possible supply of Taurus to Ukraine dangerous. In his opinion, this could leave Kyiv’s basic defense needs unattended.
