The Belgian government has given the green light for a new military aid package for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which will include 300 Lynx LMV armored vehicles produced by IVECO and three Alkmaar-class minesweepers. All this will take place within the framework of the BELEUX initiative, implemented by Belgium together with the Netherlands. Belga News Agency writes about this.
Belgium will provide basic training for Ukrainian sailors on mine-detecting ships, and the Netherlands will offer on-the-job training for Ukrainian crews of such ships.
According to Le Soir, one of the minesweepers, Narcis (M923), was launched in 1990. Before it is transferred to the Ukrainian Navy, the vessel will undergo technical maintenance.
This ship specializes in detecting and clearing mines at sea. It is equipped with sophisticated sonar systems to detect mines and uses a variety of techniques, such as remotely operated devices, to neutralize threats.
As for the LMV 4×4 armored cars, Iveco introduced these vehicles in 2001. The vehicle was developed for reconnaissance, patrolling, escorting, etc. It is special with a high degree of maneuverability and good armor protection.
Let us remind you that on March 12, the United States announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth $300 million. The Ukrainian Armed Forces will donate artillery shells, ammunition for GMLRS and HIMARS, air defense missiles and other equipment. After this, the Pentagon announced that they would no longer be able to provide weapons to Kyiv.
