Senator Graham added that he “feels sorry for the Russian people who have to live in Putin’s state.”
Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham said that the recent presidential election in the Russian Federation was illegitimate and called on the administration of US President Joe Biden to support the addition of the Russian Federation to the list of countries that sponsor terrorism. He said this at a briefing in Kyiv on March 18, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“The first thing about Putin’s election: it is illegitimate. He is an illegitimate president. He is in charge of a terrorist state. Therefore, my response to his election is that when I return to Washington, I will of a bill where, in accordance with American law, Russia would be declared a state sponsor of terrorism, because that’s what it is,” said Graham.
The senator added that he “feels sorry for the Russian people who have to live in Putin’s state.”
He emphasized that he considered the elections held in the Russian Federation as a sham, and Putin as “a war criminal, not a legitimate leader.”
“And I urge the Biden administration to support the designation of Russia, in accordance with American law, as a state sponsor of terrorism,” Graham said.
He also mentioned the weakness of the sanctions and the fact that the Russian economy is too strong.
“We need to redouble our efforts to combat its economic assets. So, if Russia is classified as a state-sponsored terrorist, each subsequent sanctions will be more significant. And the countries such as India, China and others doing business with the Russian Federation will do so with caution,” the senator said.
We remind you that US Senator Graham has changed his mind about holding elections in Ukraine. Now he believes that it is inappropriate to do this in wartime.
