The Taurus committee meeting was attended by a total of 105 people, in addition to the representatives there were representatives of many government bodies.
The publication by the media of some details of the discussion in the German Bundestag of the potential transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine today threatens the meeting participants with an investigation into the disclosure of secrets. The Rheinische Post reported this with reference to a letter from the head of the defense committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, dated March 15, to the head of the Bundestag, Berbel Bas.
The letter states that at the Taurus committee meeting there were only 105 people: deputies, as well as representatives of many authorities. Therefore, the source of the leak is not necessarily one of the parliamentarians, believes the representative of the committee.
“I request permission to proceed with criminal proceedings pursuant to Section 353b(4) of the Penal Code,” Strack-Zimmermann said in the letter.
He had also previously announced his intention to launch an investigation into the comments in the Suddeutsche Zeitung.
Over the weekend, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also commented on the information leak. According to him, “revealing any secret is something that should not happen,” and in this case it is right to conduct an investigation as to how it happened that the information was made public.
As you know, on January 17, the German parliament failed to vote for a draft resolution on providing Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
However, on February 22, the Bundestag decided to recommend that the German government provide Ukraine with long-range weapons. The final decision rests with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has so far ruled out the possibility of moving Taurus to Ukraine.
