The vote in the European Parliament took place on a resolution on “the need for unwavering support for Ukraine from the EU.”
The overwhelming majority of Germany’s ruling coalition supported a resolution in the European Parliament on the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Bild reported it.
It was noted that during a meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, politicians from the SPD, VDP and the Greens voted mainly for the resolution that Kyiv needs the aforementioned missiles. This happened against the backdrop of the fact that the representatives of the Bundestag on March 14 did not make a decision on the transfer of Taurus to Ukraine.
The vote in the European Parliament took place on a resolution on “the need for unwavering support for Ukraine from the EU.”
The 11th paragraph of the document states that “especially the country needs highly efficient air defense systems, long-range cruise missiles such as Taurus, Storm Shadow and Scalp systems, modern combat aircraft, various different types of artillery and ammunition, as well as drones.”
“The vote in Strasbourg shows how far the government signals in Berlin from its line. Although we, the CDU/CSU, welcome the vote of EU MPs from the SPD, Greens and VDP, it shows of opposing positions in Brussels and Berlin is a deception of the voters.” , said the leader of the CDU/CSU group in the EU Parliament, Daniel Caspari.
We remind you that on January 17, the German parliament failed to vote for a draft resolution on providing Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
However, on February 22, the Bundestag decided to recommend that the German government provide Ukraine with long-range weapons. The final decision rests with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has so far ruled out the possibility of moving Taurus to Ukraine.
However, the Bundestag again rejected the resolution on the supply of long-range cruise missiles.
As reported, Germany will need two years to restore its Taurus stockpile even if Berlin agrees to transfer long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine.
