More than 50 UN member states have condemned the so-called “elections” of the President of the Russian Federation, held by Russia in the occupied territories of Ukraine. This was reported by the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN.
The joint statement was signed by the European Union and 55 countries, including the USA, Australia, Argentina, Great Britain, Georgia, Moldova, Uruguay, South Korea, and Japan.
“We strongly condemn the illegitimate attempts of the Russian Federation to organize Russian presidential elections in the temporarily occupied territories of the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine. Holding elections in the territory of another member state by the UN without its consent is a clear disrespect for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. Such elections are illegitimate under international law.” , the statement said.
The countries were urged not to recognize any changes by Russia in the status of Crimea, Sevastopol, as well as Donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk and Zaporozhye regions.
We remind you that the UN condemned the attempts of the Russian Federation to hold elections in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
As reported, Ukraine called the UN Security Council because of the “election” in the WOT.
