The head of the diplomatic department believes that “many European countries” can do more to defeat Russian aggressors.
Western countries should not put off sending troops to Ukraine for a long time, because it is not known how the situation will unfold on the front. Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen announced this on Friday, March 15, Politico reports.
“Western countries, including the United States, should not rule out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine for a long time,” he said.
At the same time, he emphasized that Finland itself is not currently sending military personnel to Ukraine and “doesn’t want to talk about it.”
The publication emphasized that Valtonen’s statement concerns the long-term hypothetical choice of NATO member countries.
“But it is possible that European countries that may face an immediate threat from the Russian Federation may want to consider this option more seriously,” the publication points out.
The head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry added that the most important thing now is that Ukraine’s supporters continue to provide aid to the warring country.
“Many European countries could do more,” Valtonen emphasized.
The previous day, French President Emmanuel Macron commented in his statement about the possible deployment of troops in Ukraine. He did not rule out such a move, because Russia should not win the war.
Macron also advised Russian President Vladimir Putin not to make threats about nuclear weapons.
