When it comes to nuclear weapons, many words are unnecessary. This puts the responsibility on preventing escalation, the French leader believes.
The President of France, which also has nuclear weapons, Emmanuel Macron advised Russian President Vladimir Putin not to make threats regarding nuclear weapons. He said this in an interview on the TF1 TV channel.
“You shouldn’t make threats when you have nuclear weapons,” Macron said, commenting on Putin’s latest remarks.
The French leader said that he had not spoken to the head of the Kremlin for several months, and that such a conversation took place “if necessary.”
“Putin is a captive of repression and authoritarianism in his country, which in recent years has decided to become a destabilizing state,” stressed the politician.
Macron emphasized that nuclear states should “first of all feel protected” because they have such weapons.
“When it comes to nuclear weapons, many words are unnecessary. This imposes on us the responsibility to prevent proliferation,” the president concluded.
Let’s recall that the EU commented on Putin’s statements, noting that nuclear threats are highly unacceptable and completely inappropriate. And the United States recalled that they had already warned Russia about the consequences of using nuclear weapons.
