A meeting between the government-level teams is planned to be held next week, the president’s office said.
The head of the Office of the President (OP) of Ukraine, Andriy Ermak, had a telephone conversation with the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjártó, the OP website reports.
The parties discussed Ukrainian-Hungarian relations and ways of further development.
The Ukrainian official and the Hungarian minister agreed to hold a bilateral meeting between the government-level teams next week.
Ermak and Szijjarto noted the importance of personal contact and expressed hope for finding mutually beneficial solutions to the most difficult issues on the bilateral agenda.
The parties also agreed to maintain contact on a regular basis.
We remind you that Peter Szijjarto said that Hungary, which from July 1 will lead the Council of the European Union on a rotational basis, will lobby for Georgia and Moldova to join the EU, but will not do it for Ukraine. He said accession negotiations would focus on the “real performance” of candidate countries rather than “political pressure.”
It should be noted that a member of the European Parliament has initiated a petition to strip Hungary of its voting rights in the EU Council. The petition was supported by 120 MEPs from different political groups and several member states.
