In previously concluded contracts for the replacement of equipment sent to Ukraine, savings were found, Jake Sullivan noted.
Relatively speaking, the Pentagon initially allocated one amount for the purchase of 100 shells – say, $130. a piece. But in fact, these shells turned out to be cheaper at $93. In total, under various contracts, we managed to save about $300 million, which is now useful for helping Ukraine,” Yarysh wrote on Facebook.
The money was spent on replenishing US warehouses, from which they provided weapons for Ukraine. But the Pentagon says that it won’t be possible to do this again.
Earlier, Rakurs wrote that on March 12, the White House announced a new package of military assistance for Ukraine worth $300 million.
This is the first arms package from the United States this year – the last time such an announcement was at the end of December.
The new package included artillery shells, HIMARS ammunition, air defense missiles and other equipment. Armaments will be provided from the United States. The Pentagon expects it to arrive at the Armed Forces of Ukraine as soon as possible. Residual funds previously approved by Congress were used to finance the package.
However, the Pentagon emphasized that the United States does not yet have the money to replenish its own weapons reserves.
