One of the heads of the US Department of Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) stated this at a hearing in Congress.
Experts at these hearings called for investing in security without waiting for a “geopolitical shock” like Pearl Harbor, writes Voice of America.
The United States requires significant defense investments amid current challenges in the cyber, maritime, air and space domains, as well as significant threats from China and Russia.
Participants in the hearings also expressed hope that American taxpayers will realize this need precisely on the basis of calculations, without an additional geopolitical shock, which, for example, was the tragedy at Pearl Harbor.
According to the DIA, China has amassed the largest arsenal of hypersonic weapons capable of carrying both nuclear and conventional warheads. American experts call the DF-17 missile, which entered service in 2020 and is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 1.6 thousand km, the most effective, writes Radio Liberty.
In 2021, during testing, a Chinese missile with a hypersonic warhead flew around the globe.
Russia, as Pentagon representatives said, has three types of hypersonic weapons, which have already been used to strike Ukraine.
