The Crimean prosecutor’s office submitted to the court an indictment against a former Ukrainian athlete who supported the enemy and raised funds for his army. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine on Wednesday, March 13.
“The accused is a former Ukrainian athlete and multiple European and world champion in sumo, who started competing in the Russian national team in 2016, but took a break from his career after Russian athletes were banned from participating in international competitions. ,” the Office of the Prosecutor General clarified.
According to the investigation, the sumo wrestler led a voluntary movement to support the Russian army: he collected funds for the purchase of diesel generators, walkie-talkies, thermal imagers and other resources for the military personnel of Russia. In particular, the Russian military that attacked Bakhmut received help from the volunteer organization he led.
In addition, the traitor carried out propaganda work: he spoke to the pro-Russian media with aggressive narratives.
