An illegal route was arranged from the Danube to the Hungarian border. In total, about 40 people were detained – citizens of Romania and other countries.
In Romania, the activities of a secret transport network of migrants to the EU, called the largest in the country’s history, have been exposed. This was reported by Digi24.
It was noted that the exposure is the result of more than a year of work by law enforcement agencies and border guards, during which they intercepted many vehicles with migrants and identified members of the network. In total, about 40 people were detained – citizens of Romania and other countries.
The defendants charged $5,000 for services from each migrant. The investigation believes the attackers made off with around $2 million.
An illegal route was arranged from the Danube to the Hungarian border. Initially, smugglers picked up migrants by boat from the Bulgarian bank of the Danube, usually at night and without a motor, in order to remain as undetectable as possible.
The people were then put on the road and taken west to the area around the city of Arad. There, the migrants were placed in trucks that had already been sealed by Romanian customs officials to be smuggled across the Hungarian border secretly.
Smugglers have learned to skillfully cut the seal and close it back almost imperceptibly.
We remind you that according to the UN, in 2023, 8,565 migrant deaths were registered in the world, which is 20% more than a year ago.
It has also been reported that thousands of migrants are seen on the border of the Russian Federation with Finland.
