Prime Minister Robert Fico’s government has criticized European military aid to Ukraine and aims to restore ties with Russia on both a cultural and political level.
About five thousand people in the Slovak capital Bratislava protested against the policies of the Fico government and to express their support for Ukraine. Reuters reported this on Tuesday, March 12.
The protest started at the air raid signal.
“People in Ukraine hear this every day,” said protest organizer Michal Gvorecki.
Fico regularly faces opposition to his policies, mainly against an overhaul of the criminal code, which critics say weakens the fight against corruption. This action was the first directed against his foreign policy.
NATO countries should not send troops to Ukraine. Instead, “cowardly” Ukrainian men from abroad have to be sent back to their homeland. This idea was expressed by Slovakian Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak.
Let’s remember that Viktor Orban and Robert Fitz were greeted by protesters in Prague with whistles and shouts of “shame.” Some of them held banners with the words “Vysehrad is dead.”
