Firefighters initially expected many injuries. However, everyone got out of the tent in time.
In a tent city for Ukrainian refugees on the territory of the former Tegel Airport in Berlin, a large fire occurred, as a result of which a tent with a size of 1,000 square meters was burned, in which there were up to 380 refugees. The Berlin Fire Service announced this on Tuesday, March 12, on its page at Twitter (X).
It was indicated that nine people sought help. Three of them were diagnosed with mild smoke inhalation, but did not require hospitalization.
According to the fire department, the residents of the shelter were able to leave in time.
“I am very glad that no one was hurt in the fire. The security action was quick and careful, getting everyone to safety and thus saving lives. Emergency workers quickly arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire,” said the Senator for Social Affairs Cansel Kiziltepe, who arrived at the camp for refugees.

Residents of the burned shelter have been provided with alternative housing. They were moved to a building designed for 7,000 people and where about 4,500 people live today.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
As we wrote earlier, only a fifth of Ukrainian refugees in Germany are planning to return to Ukraine.
